What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an originally Chinese practice of inserting fine needles through the skin at specific points especially to cure disease or relieve pain.  This medical technique is believed to have been devised in China before 2500 BC. The use of acupuncture spread throughout Egypt, the Middle East and the Roman Empire.  Then as missionaries and merchants traveled to and from Western Europe and China, they told stories of the different discoveries the people of Chinahad developed. Gradually in the 1970's, acupuncture became more well known in the United States.

The early Chinese physicians believed there is an energy network traveling just below the surface of the skin.  This energy network communicates from the exterior to the internal organs and structures over 1,000 "Acupoints" on the body.  This energy works in harmony with the all of the body's systems.  If this energy becomes blocked or weakened, the effect becomes evident.  Stimulation of the appropriate combination of "Acupoints" on the body may restore the harmony to that affected area.

Historians have stated, "More people have benefited from Acupuncture over the course of 50 centuries than the combined total of all other healing sciences, both ancient and modern."
